I awoke one morning a few days ago at our house, Villa San Lorenzo, in Piedmont, Italy, and found a beautiful fresh blanket of snow covering the landscape in a beautiful marshmallow fluffy white. I threw on my coat and ran out the door, wanting to capture the warmth of sunrise carving into the brilliant white landscape. I love Paris in the snow; I also love Italy in the snow. The swimming pool is covered in ice and the trees are sagging from the weight of the snow. Summer is half a year away and I don’t mind because I love winter with all of its stark contrast and magical light nearly from sunrise until sunset. I share this image with you as we embark on the dawning of the new year.
Happy 2011!
