UNIT 8 (1) DIALOGUE – Chez le Coiffeur (At the hairdresser) Tutor then Students type the following dialogue, first in French, then in English LE COIFFEUR (the hairdresser) On ne vous a pas vu depuis longtemps, monsieur (We have not seen you in a long time, sir) M. PERRIER Je me suis absenté pour affaires (I was away on business) et je viens seulement de rentrer (and I have just come back) LE COIFFEUR Mme Perrier était-elle avec vous? (Was Mrs. Perrier with you?) M. PERRIER Non, elle a dû rester à cause des enfants (No, she had to stay because of the children) LE COIFFEUR C’est vrai, je n’y pensais pas (That’s right, I was not thinking of that) Et que vous fait-on aujourd’hui? (And what can I do for you today?) M. PERRIER Une coupe de cheveux, rien de plus (A hair cut. Nothing more) LE COIFFEUR Aussi courts que d’habitude? (As short as usual?) M. PERRIER Oui, vous savez qu’ils poussent très vite. (Yes, you know it grows fast.) LE COIFFEUR Avez-vous lu le discours du Président? (Did you read the President’s speech?) M. PERRIER Non, je n’ai lu que la rubrique sportive. (No, I only read the sports section.) LE COIFFEUR Et voilà. C’est assez court comme ça? (There you are. It’s short enough like this?) M. PERRIER C’est très bien. Maintenant, je me dépêche (That’s fine. Now, I have to hurry) LE COIFFEUR Vous allez au Parc des Princes? (are you going to the Parc des Princes?) M. PERRIER Oui, c’est le dernier match de la saison. (Yes, it’s the last game of the season.) LE COIFFEUR Partez vite, alors. Vous paierez la prochaine fois. (Go right ahead, then. You can pay the next time.) M. PERRIER Vous êtes bien aimable. Merci. Au revoir (It’s very kind of you. Thanks and goodbye) M. Perrier attend un taxi. (Mr. Perrier is waiting for a taxi) M. PERRIER Au Parc des Princes. A toute vitesse (To the Parc des Princes. As fast as you can go) LE CHAUFFEUR DE TAXI Oh! Je ne vais pas risquer d’accident pour vous. (I am not going to risk an accident for you.) Il fallait partir plus tôt. (You should have started earlier) M. PERRIER Allons, faites un effort. (Come on, make an effort). Vous ne voudriez pas me faire manquer ce match de football? (You wouldn’t want me to miss this soccer game?) LE CHAUFFEUR Tous les clients disent la même chose.
