Photo of the Week – September 28
This week’s photo also honors French fashion with a portrait of designer Jean Patou. Born in 1880 in Normandy, Patou’s family was in the tanning and fur business. He opened a dressmaking salon in Paris in 1912 before serving as Captain in World War I. After the war, he returned to fashion and became known for designing women’s sportswear. He encouraged natural and comfortable trends in women’s fashion, designing sleeveless tennis wear and cardigans. The House of  Patou was also very well known for it’s perfumes, the best known of which is a rose and jasmine floral scent called “Joy”. It was voted by the public as “Scent of the Century” at the Fragrance Foundation FiFi Awards in 2000. photo: French fashion designer Jean Patou , via Wikimedia Commons   Subscribe for FREE weekly newsletters.
