This week’s photo features the recently renovated Fondation Vincent van Gogh in Arles, which opened it’s doors with the exhibition VAN GOGH LIVE !. The galleries will present exhibitions of van Gogh’s paintings as well as works by contemporary artists paying homage to his work. The non-profit foundation is dedicated to representing the work and legacy of the artist, especially related to the fifteen months he spent in Arles, as well as to create a center of exchange and creation, as the artist himself expressed interest in developing.
The building’s architectural style is linear and clean, which creates an interesting contrast with the surrounding antique town houses. It’s glass walls and ceiling emphasize the play of natural light, which was an important inspiration in van Gogh’s vision of Arles. For more information, visit the website.
