Photo of the Week – December 13, 2013
A few weeks ago I found myself in Marseille for the first time, crossing the passerelle du Fort Saint-Jean at night, with views of the city to my left and the bay of Marseille to my right. It was one of those moments of beauty that you don’t forget. The passerelle is a thin bridge that connects the fort, built in 1660 by Louis XIV, and the MuCEM, The Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations. The museum opened in June 2013, and is the first national museum in the country to be located outside of Paris. It’s striking design includes a concrete latticework that creates a shell around the 15,000 square meter cube structure. The MuCEM houses exhibitions on two levels, an underground auditorium, a bookshop and a rooftop restaurant. MuCEM website photo by Pernmith , via Flickr
