Photo Essay: Paris Celebrates the Grape Harvest in Montmartre
2194
Montmartre celebrated the harvest in style this weekend with the 82nd Fête des Vendanges. The festivities on the butte featured wine from all over France, along with gastronomic delights, throngs of people, and far-reaching conviviality—so many things reminding us of the beauty of the planet (this year’s theme).
The Saturday grand parade was its usual merry self. Robes flowing, silver tastevins sparkling, percussionists percussing, bagpipers piping, wine flowing, people smiling. As several signs proclaimed, “Cheerfulness costs nothing.” And that, for all, was the philosophy of the day.
