Paris News: Marks and Spencer Opens in Paris With Video from Le Figaro
BonjourParis Paris News Paris, November 24—British retail store Marks & Spencer today opened its flagship three-story story in Paris on the Champs Elysées and all indications are that Parisians welcome the return of the retailer that left France ten years ago during the 2001 economic downturn. A ribbon-cutting is scheduled for this morning. According to a figaro.fr online survey, over 80 percent of those who voted believe this is good news. Comments posted below the story note the quality of apparel and appreciation for the additional jobs. Marks & Spencer abruptly closed its stores in France in 2001 after holding hastily organized close-out sales on remaining stock. The company’s CEO, Marc Bolland, said Marks & Spencer is returning with a new image. The Champs Elysées store will carry women’s wear, lingerie and a food department. The store also has computer terminals where customers can order additional items from the store’s full inventory. A Marks & Spencer French website is now online, the company’s first international transactional website. The Champs-Elysées store, which replaced an Esprit store, is just the first of several planned Marks & Spencer stores in France. The retailer is reportedly searching for Paris locations for its Simply Food grocery stores. According to Le Figaro, Marks & Spencer plans to open four stores in the Paris market over the next two years. Locations reportedly under consideration include the Carrousel du Louvre, Beaugrenelle in the Paris 15th and Levallois-Perret. Marks & Spencer is a leading UK retailer that services about 21 million customers weekly at 700 UK stores and over 360 stores in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The new store is located at 100, avenue Champs-Elysées in the Paris 8th and it is open daily from 10am-10pm. VIDEO report by Le Figaro Dali Wiederhoft is the executive editor of BonjourParis.
