Au restaurant—part 4
Here are some tips and a few common expressions to help you communicate when going to a restaurant in France. This is the final part of the Au restaurant lessons.
The waiter may not bring you une carafe d’eau (a pitcher of water), especially if you’ve ordered some wine. You may have to ask for it—je voudrais une carafe d’eau s’il vous plaît—or for une bouteille d’eau minérale, (a bottle of mineral water), which comes plate ou gazeuse (flat or sparkling).
They will surely bring une corbeille de pain (a bread basket) avec du beurre (with butter) and since it’s so good, you might want some more: je voudrais un peu plus de pain s’il vous plaît.
Don’t hesitate to ask je voudrais du sel, du poivre, de la moutarde (I’d like some salt, some pepper, some mustard).
