Love is in the air in the month of Saint Valentine! Where could be more romantic than the City of Light to steal a kiss with your special one near a bridge centuries old, or to stroll hand in hand as you’re serenaded by accordion players and buskers alike. Ah, oui, la vie en rose à Paris is very lovely indeed! To set the scene, here is the best of what is going on in Paris this month. Opera, Ballet and Theatre Performance Palais Garnier Caligula, Choreographer Nicolas Le Riche – through February 24th Created for the Opera Garnier in 2005 by Nicolas Le Riche, this ballet in five acts is danced to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Opéra Garnier: Giulio Césare, Conductor Emmanuelle Haim, through February 17th Handel’s opera, set in Egypt 48 B.C., is the consummate Italian tragedy with themes of warfare, love and betrayal. Opéra Bastille: Swan Lake, Choreographer Rudolf Nureyev, through January 5th 2011 Tchaikovsky’s first and most famous ballet takes the Opera Garnier through the holiday season.  The show runs through January 5th. Le Nozze di Figaro – Conductor Philippe Jordan (A) and Dan Ettinger (B), through June 11th 2011 An opera buffa in four acts, this is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at his best. Madame Butterfly, Conductor Maurizio Benini, through February 14th A Japanese setting at the turn of the century, this opera tells the story of an American lieutenant and his young Japanese bride.  This opera is considered to be one of Puccini’s most beautiful.
