Responsible Retail: Fashion Integrity by Galeries Lafayette
With an increasing trend towards sustainable fashion, France’s leading department store Galeries Lafayette is stepping to the forefront. On August 24th, they are launching a unique ready-to-wear collection, Fashion Integrity by GALERIES LAFAYETTE. These 5 basic styles, essential for every wardrobe, Parisian or other, will include a range of modern cotton shirts and skirts. What makes this collection so unique and environmentally-minded? Not only is the cotton organic and fair trade, but the seeds are also GM-free and no chemicals, fertilizers, or pesticides are used at any stage of the production process. What’s more, the work and health conditions of the local manufacturing teams is monitored and respected. The key to the Fashion Integrity label is producing ethically. The entire production process is traceable, from harvesting of the raw materials to hanging on the store rack. By scanning the QR code on the label, you’ll see exactly how and where that particular item was manufactured. This traceability provides customers high quality products with an ethical foot print. With 50% of the environmental impact on clothing made after purchase, the hope is that these basics will be worn over many years. Customers will be provided with maintenance information and advised to donate and recycle unwanted apparel in an aim to protect the environment. As a retail and fashion powerhouse, the Galeries Lafayette group is committed to becoming the world market leader in French, ethical and responsible retail, with a focus on integrity. The Fashion Integrity by GALERIES LAFAYETTE collection will be available from August, 24th 2016 at all Galeries Lafayette stores in France, BHV MARAIS in Paris, Galeries Lafayette in Berlin, as well as on the Galeries Lafayette website. Retail prices range from 22€ to 44€.
