Printemps Fetes 160 Years with a Paris-Themed Celebration

Printemps isn’t just a shopping destination par excellence but a historical landmark with stunning Art Deco dome and Art Nouveau architectural elements. It was back in 1865 that a visionary couple, Jules and Augustine Jaluzot, founded the grand magasin (department store). Printemps- with a brand promise offering everyone “something new, fresh, and beautiful”- revolutionized retail by introducing fixed prices, eliminating haggling, and pioneering discount sales. Nowadays the Paris flagship on Boulevard Haussmann continues to remain at the fashion forefront, particularly with 7ème Ciel du Printemps, an entire floor dedicated to secondhand items- a bold sustainability initiative. Now 160 years old, Printemps Haussmann attracts 20 million visitors from around the world each year.

To celebrate the big birthday, an event called “PRINTEMPS ICÔNE DE PARIS” is taking place this summer, from July 10 to August 24. The famous store windows have been transformed into dreamlike Parisian postcards by artist Éric Giriat, and many of the scenes are collabs with celebrated Parisian institutions: Les Deux Magots, the RATP, the Grand Palais, the Tuileries Gardens, the Eiffel Tower, and the Opéra Garnier. What’s more, Printemps has launched its very first souvenir shop, an exclusive collection that reinvents motifs of Parisian heritage, available in several Printemps stores across France, and from Printemps.com.

Enjoy a self-guided tour of Printemps Haussmann’s historical spaces to learn more about its sublime architecture, then head to the Bleu Coupole restaurant to try the special anniversary pastry called L’instant 1865. Resembling a real birthday cake, the fantastical treat combines a violet-infused cream, strawberry compote with olive oil and honey, a madeleine biscuit, and hazelnut shortbread.
