Parisians have now firmly embraced “le brunch,” making it a regular part of their Sunday routine and giving us plenty of new brunch spots across the city. However, the Parisian love for eggs benedict also brings a downside – the long queues outside the city’s more “hipster” establishments as you wait for your name to be called out from a clipboard – possibly over an hour after you arrived.

For those who have visitors, or who simply refuse to wait so long for their morning coffee, there are a few places that allow you to book in advance, ensuring a table immediately and no hanging around wasting precious weekend time.

With plenty of long weekends coming up, Bonjour Paris has done the research for you. Here’s our list of picks: where to head this Sunday for a long, lazy and delicious brunch.

ZIA, 7th arrondissement, Website: www.ziaparis.com

With fresh market food and speciality coffee, including the ever-popular cold brew, ZIA is definitely a brunch spot to appreciate if you’re in the 7eme.

Offering sweet treats such as Dutch Baby Pancakes and savory dishes such as the signature breakfast burrito with homemade chorizo, guests can also enjoy a boozy brunch at Zia on both a Saturday and a Sunday thanks to Bloody Marys and a selection of organic, biodynamic and natural wines.

And on a side note, they also offer the interesting concept of “picnics to go,” which can be ordered online and picked up in store for those wanting to head out and enjoy a summer’s day, without the hassle of packing the sandwiches.

Located in the 20eme, hip hotel MAMA Shelter offers brunch to everyone on Sundays, and only by reservation. The impressive offering includes bread, pastries, fresh fruit, classic English eggs, bacon, and sausages, a wide variety of starters, hot main meals, a very tempting dessert table, including pancakes and waffles if you still have room for sweet brunch after your eggs, and even a cheese board to finish it all off. Phew.

Like MAMA Shelter, the Grand Pigalle also opens its weekend brunch to everyone, not only hotel guests. This is where SoPi’s hip locals hang out on a weekend. Famous for its homemade granola (we’ve tried it and can confirm it’s delicious!), the breakfast offering also includes a buffet of breads, pastries, yogurts, and fruit, as well as a hot meal, fresh juice and coffee, all set in the cozy and stylish surroundings of the hotel’s bar.

€29 per person.

Already worth a visit for literary fans thanks to being a former haunt of Oscar Wilde, Café de la Paix is also one of the most extravagant brunches on our list, if not in the city. Be sure to head over hungry as this brunch feast includes a selection of seafood, charcuterie, Asian-inspired stir fried vegetables, sushi and makis, followed by a whole dessert table brimming with profiteroles, éclairs, Paris-Brest pastries, and the iconic Café de la Paix millefeuille.

It doesn’t come cheap, but the gourmet menu and rich history of the café make it one for pushing the (brunch) boat out, and there is also a special brunch for “les enfants” making it a great choice for families.

Les Bains hold brunch every Sunday, offering a selection of fresh and organic-where-possible dishes, many with a a healthy edge.

Start your day with their selection of fresh, vitamin-rich “healthy juices” and healthy cold buffet, or for those wanting to indulge don’t worry – there is also a selection of delicious hot dishes such as bacon-topped eggs or pancakes, and a buffet of home-made desserts.

Enjoy a leisurely brunch in this chic hotel restaurant, which also serves as the backdrop for pianist Mattias Mimoun who plays each Sunday.

And watch this space for more days to enjoy the bountiful brunch at Les Bains, as the hotel is currently looking into launching a Saturday brunch.

If you have ever seen a long queue outside Claus and given up on the idea of getting in, then Bonjour Paris has found the way. Although downstairs does have a small space (only 8 seats) for walk-ins, the tables on the first floor are actually reservation only, but you need to book around 10 days in advance to secure your table.

During weekends four brunch menus are available, offering a variety of delicious breads, pastries, Claus’ homemade organic jams and granola, Claus muesli, eggs, smoked salmon, bacon, pancakes, and compotes, which thankfully you don’t have to queue for.

Those looking for luxury for their Sunday brunch can now head to Le Meurice, which just launched a new Sunday Brunch at Restaurant Le Dalí.

Brunch begins with a glass of fresh fruit or vegetable juice in the hope of undoing the damage caused by the restaurant’s melt-in-the-mouth pastries, although for those who can resist the temptation there’s also a selection of seasonal fruit salads.

Chef Jocelyn Herland has also created a selection of gourmet hot brunch dishes, from free-range chicken fricassee to sautéed Lobster with crispy wheat, whilst famed pastry chef Cédric Grolet helps satisfy sweet tooths with a selection of indulgent desserts.

Sister hotel Plaza Athénée also has a beautiful courtyard and outdoor terrace for those looking for a luxury alfresco option during summer.

Le Barbe à Papa, 9th arrondissement, Website: www.lebarbeapapa.fr

Headed up by young French chef Sandy Dos, the menu at Le Barbe à Papa is completely homemade (except for the artisan bread and the ice cream) with the team selecting the best fresh produce from the Rungis market.

Brunch can be booked on Sundays and we like the more flexible menu options here; you can either choose the set menu or individual à la carte plates depending on how hungry – or greedy – you might be feeling. There are classic breakfast dishes such as “pain perdu” and eggs benedict, as well as hearty burger and salad options for those who head along for a late lunch rather than breakfast.

The set menu is priced at 28€ per person with individual plates priced at 16€ each.
