Paris – 2nd Arrondissement
The 2nd may house the French stock exchange (La Bourse de Paris), but it’s a lot more than a financial district. Rue Montorgueil is one of our favorite streets in Paris because the market is fantastic, and it’s pedestrianized, so you can wander and ogle the stands and shopfronts to your heart’s content. (Tip: A great neighborhood to rent a holiday apartment.) Nearby, the Rue de Nil has become another foodie mecca because of Frenchie restaurant and a bastion of fine purveyors. Around the corner, don’t miss the cocktails at Experimental Cocktail Club.
Another thing we love about the 2nd arrondissement is the covered passageways. Built during the 19th century, these beautiful arcades were the precursor to the modern shopping mall. Today, their magnificent details (like mosaics) remain intact. Galerie Colbert, Passage des Panoramas, and Galerie Vivienne are delightful places to happen upon, and escape the rain if there’s inclement weather. They are also still lined with on-trend shops and exciting restaurants.
