1920s Speakeasy Spirit: Le Bristol Paris Fetes 90 Years
It was the year 1925. Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald mingled on Left Bank terraces. Art Deco was making its debut. The worlds of fashion, literature and art were thriving, attracting visionaries from around the world. Paris in the Roaring Twenties was a non-stop celebration, a mythical epoch. It was then that hotelier Hippolyte Jammet founded what is now the legendary Le Bristol Paris. A passionate perfectionist, he settled for nothing less than the best: in materials, architecture, equipment and personnel. This set the precedent for the years to follow. Fast forward to 2015. In celebration of its 90th anniversary, Le Bristol Paris is returning to its beginnings. The hotel has pulled out all the stops with five festive events that represent a journey back in time: a brunch, gala dinners, a Guinguette tavern, and a cocktail party, all reviving the Roaring Twenties spirit. Three years ago, Le Bristol Paris opened Le Bar du Bristol, quickly recognized as one of the top hotel bars in the world. Last night– as part of the 90th anniversary events– it morphed into a speakeasy. With jubilant drinking and dancing, Paris was plunged into the Prohibition. Only a password would allow you into this scene from the past. Ladies were fitted in sequins and feathers, while gentleman donned elegant suits and top hats.   The evening commenced at 7pm, with a blues band singing American classics. Dancers filled the space, with various performers making appearances throughout the night. Classic 1920s cocktails (like Sidecars) were served up by the in-house mixologist, Head Barman Maxime Hoerth, also recognized as an MOF (Best Craftsman of France). Tasty tapas created by Chef Eric Frechon perfectly complemented the cocktails. Magic from another era filled the air, creating a night to remember.
